But we don’t live in an ideal world, and to move in that direction, we must stand up to the wave of money and influence dominating our electoral system. As elder Americans, we remember the days when our institutions worked better than they do now; we want to help bring our country back from the brink.
In order to speak out fully and frankly, compliant with Federal election laws and regulations, we need the flexibility the PAC structure provides. Every dollar we raise will help us secure and advance climate protections and justice in our communities.
The stakes are incredibly high, and the outcomes will reverberate for generations. Older Americans, with their wealth of experience and historical perspective, have a unique and crucial role to play. By pooling resources and energy, we can make a profound and lasting impact. Your contribution to GrayPAC is an investment in a brighter future for all.
We started GrayPAC (our own Political Action Committee––an entity with the express purpose of raising and spending money to elect and defeat candidates) to have the greatest impact on this year’s elections. We need GrayPAC because every state has different rules about what nonprofits are allowed to do for elections. Channeling our partisan electoral activity through GrayPAC prevents Third Act from possibly running afoul of government rules about what nonprofits are allowed to do and say.
We focus our efforts in the critical races where we can make the most impact. With the PAC we can favor close and toss-up races where the outcome is most pivotal, where older and progressive voters are eager to contribute and where we have identified opportunities for victory that extend beyond conventional wisdom. GrayPAC enables us to come out strong to advance climate champions who will fight for our future, while we defeat Trump and other candidates who want to reverse all the progress we’ve made.
Electoral work includes everything from helping folks register to vote, poll watching to endorsements and actively working to get a particular candidate elected. It’s a wide ranging category that can include c3/c4/PAC activities. We have always done c3 and c4 electoral work––but we can not use those funds to do PAC work which allows us to work towards getting specific candidates elected.
GrayPAC is primarily focused on engaging Americans over 60, but anyone who supports our mission is welcome to get involved and contribute.
While Third Act is a 501(c)(4) organization engaged in advocacy and activism, GrayPAC is a political action committee that directly supports and funds candidates and policies aligned with our mission.
Our strategy is designed to maximize the impact of GrayPAC by focusing on the races where we can make the most difference. By prioritizing competitive Senate races, swing House districts, electoral college tipping-point states, and smaller-population states and key congressional districts, we’re working to ensure that every dollar spent and every volunteer hour contributes to a successful outcome in 2024.
We are using resources strategically — this means prioritizing competitive Senate races, swing House districts, statewide offices including Public Utility Commissions, state legislative races where chamber control is at stake, and electoral college tipping-point states, with an emphasis on smaller-population states and affordable media markets. In this way, we ensure that every dollar spent and every volunteer hour contributes to a successful outcome in 2024.
